SANTIAGO — The Águilas Cibaeñas continued their aggressive offseason buildup on Tuesday, adding three pitchers to strengthen what was already one of the most formidable bullpens in the Dominican Winter League.

The yellow birds announced the signing of left-handed relievers Jonathan Aro and Diógenes Almengó, along with another arm (details pending on the third pitcher), as they look to fortify their relief corps heading into the 2026-27 LIDOM campaign.

The moves reflect the Águilas’ clear priority: building a deep, versatile, and lockdown bullpen capable of dominating late innings in what promises to be another highly competitive winter season.

General Manager Ángel Ovalles emphasized the importance of the additions, noting that the new pitchers bring experience, different looks, and the ability to pitch in high-leverage situations.

“We’re very happy to add these three arms to our bullpen,” Ovalles said. “They give us depth, left-right balance, and proven performers who understand what it takes to succeed in LIDOM. Our goal is to have one of the best relief units in the league from Opening Day onward.”

Jonathan Aro, a crafty left-hander with solid command, and Diógenes Almengó, known for his swing-and-miss stuff, are expected to play key roles in bridging the gap between the starters and the closer. The addition of a third pitcher further enhances the Águilas’ ability to match up effectively against opposing lineups.

This bullpen reinforcement comes on the heels of earlier moves, including the signing of outfielder Luis Liberato, signaling that the Águilas are not satisfied with simply returning to the playoffs — they are aiming for another deep postseason run and a shot at their 23rd championship.

With several veteran pieces already locked in and now a reinforced relief unit, the Águilas enter the 2026-27 season with one of the more complete rosters in LIDOM. Fans in Santiago will be eager to see how these new arms perform when the lights come on at Estadio Cibao next October.

The hot stove remains active across the league, and more roster announcements from the Águilas are expected in the coming weeks.
